Playlist by El Hardwick & Artwork by Ramisha Sattar

I wanted to make a playlist that captures my experience of queer heartbreak amidst a global pandemic. Since the physical queer spaces that our community used to go to in order to hug, heal and transform aren't available to us now, I've instead been finding solace and connection by immersing myself in the songwriting of fellow LGBT+ musicians (or otherwise drawing my own queer readings from non-gender-specific songs of heartbreak). I've felt seen and heard by this music, at a time when I cannot often be physically seen or heard. It's been a year of firsthand grief, heartbreak and endings for all of us, as we let go of the pre-pandemic world. This playlist honours that grief, and the tears that need to be shed -- but also small moments of joy, and the light that can be found in the darkness.
